Howard Turvey elected chairman BASDA Logistics & Supply Chain SIG
The first BASDA Special Interest Group (SIG) for the Logistics and Supply Chain industry was held at the Proteus offices in Birmingham today, and was deemed to be a resounding success by all who attended. Jairo Rojas, Chairman of BASDA said, “We are very pleased at the way the seminar went, and feel that this is going to prove to be a very exiting platform for the Logistics and Supply Chain Industry where members will be able to voice their opinions, and raise issues concerning Logistics and Supply Chain, Warehousing, Health & Safety for example. In future Logistics and Supply Chain SIG meetings we are hoping to uncover any major concerns regarding legislation that has a bearing on supply chain operations that will inevitability impact our members’ business operations. If our members feel strongly about an issue we will lobby the government on their behalf. We are also going to be working closely with other Warehousing & Logistics Affiliations, i.e. the UKWA and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport which will add weight, be supportive to each other and give the Logistics industry the tools to have one united voice.” Jairo hopes that the SIG will be useful to members on an educational level too, “We have plans to produce some really useful information as a result of the Special Interest Group, which may take the form of white papers, newsletters and sound bites, all of which will be downloadable from the BASDA website. We are also hoping to define Codes of Best Practice and Standards. Ultimately it will be down to what are members want from the Logistics and Supply Chain Group however we are opening the group to the whole of the Logistics Industry and are inviting them to come along to the next meeting”.
Roger Williams Chairman of UKWA spoke on the importance of the affiliations pulling together and looking for the synergies within the affiliation organisations, which can be used to the benefit of all the Special Interest Group members.
Howard Turvey, Proteus Software MD, was elected the first BASDA Logistics and Supply Chain Special Interest Group Chairman. Howard will hold the post for one year, after which the position will be open to other members for election.
The Logistics and Supply Chain SIG plans to hold open forums and networking events during its first year of operation, and is currently putting together a program of events.
