Proteus has actively been involved on the steering committee of Delivering Your Future, a programme co-ordinated on behalf of the logistics industry by Skills for Logistics, since 2006. The Delivering Your Future programme has been developed to educate school pupils about the fascinating role of the Logistics industry, and the variety of career opportunities that are afforded to them.
Geared to 11 -18 year olds, Delivering Your Future has created "Made in China," a curriculum resource for schools aimed at young people aged 14 to 16. It is designed to support Mathematics and Enterprise in the curriculum. The materials give pupils the opportunity to learn about the logistics supply chain through their maths lessons, by following the journey of an MP3 player, from its manufacture in China to its point of sale in the UK. Through the enterprise day challenge, students form their own logistics companies, take on industry related job roles and try to win a contract from a fictional music retailer, to transport MP3 players by air and sea from China to the UK.
The curriculum resource has been successfully adopted in schools throughout the UK, after having been trialed by schools in Scotland, the East Midlands and the North West.
An exciting website which promotes logistics as a vibrant career choice for young people has also been created. This comprehensive site packages information on jobs, companies and employees. There are interactive features too, which include the ‘Articulated Monkeys’ game, a blog, video case studies and lifestyle pages on shopping, driving and celebrities. All of these elements help to put logistics in a context that teenagers can understand.
