Poole Lighting goes live with PROTEUS^®

Leading lighting product provider Poole Lighting has gone live with the PROTEUS^® Warehouse Management Solution.  The company supplies it’s exclusive products to B&Q, Marks & Spencer, Focus Do it All, John Lewis and BHS.  Due to the company’s success and increased annual turnover, coupled with rising costs of manufacturing in the UK, a decision was taken in 2004 to cease the manufacturing operation and concentrate on importing product from proven selected suppliers in China.

This had a significant bearing on the warehouse operation. Whilst the old operation was organised and efficient, it was very labour intensive with 50 staff picking and managing the operation. With the increases in stock levels and the numbers of shipments in and out of the warehouse, it soon became clear that a larger warehouse was needed. It was also decided that a more cost effective way of operating was in order.  A decision was taken to move to a larger, state of the art warehouse in Christchurch. It was decided that it would be most beneficial to source a new Warehouse Management Software solution at the same time.

PROTEUS^® RF Directed Warehouse Management was selected and a then further decision was made to replace their existing ERP package with PROTEUS^®. 

In February 2006 Poole Lighting went live with the fully integrated version of PROTEUS^® covering 48 concurrent users located at the 85,000 sq ft Poole Christchurch warehouse, with a bridged link broadband connection to the Poole head office, creating a VPN. The system uses a Psion Teklogix RF Network, utilising 4 truck-mounted terminals and 20 handheld terminals.
