Proteus delivers Unilever products for NCS
NCS, a major 3PL in Ireland specialising in cold storage, chose the Proteusâ warehouse management suite to run not only their new, purpose built, cold storage warehouse but also to control their van sales/door step deliveries.
The warehouse operates at -28o and stores the well known Unilever brands i.e. HB/Walls, Carte D’Or, Birds Eye Frozen Foods and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. NCS chose Proteusâ RF Directed WMS with scanning equipment provided by Psion Teklogix, which is capable of operating at extreme temperatures of -30o.
The software also controls the company’s fleet van sales. Every delivery vehicle is equipped with a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) that links to the Proteusâ system. Each vehicle is treated like a movable “mini-warehouse”. As goods are sold “off the van” the software is updated via the PDA. On return to the warehouse the PDA is connected to the main Proteus WMS and the system is automatically updated with the recorded information.
This produces a simultaneous update across the reporting tools that are built in to the software, giving true visibility of stock levels, as well as producing an audit trail so that track and trace of stock is available.
As a result, order processing, invoicing and purchase order control becomes an automatic process. Stock taking is far easier as there is full track and trace of stock through the use barcodes that are consistently scanned throughout the product journey from storage through to deliver to the end user.
