Proteus Freightware at the Commercial Vehicle Show
Proteus FreightWare Stand No 3040 CV Show
Proteus Software is looking forward to having a presence at the Commercial Vehicle Show 2007, where we will be showcasing our Transport Management Solution, Proteus FreightWare.
David Gray, Chief Executive, Proteus Software says, “The use of technology in the transportation of goods has become normal business practice, aiding the track and trace of goods and ensuring delivery to the end user at the right time, in the right place. Transport Managers today desire a cost effective “end to end solution” from their technology provider. Not only must software have comprehensive functionality, it must be fully integrated, reliable, use the latest tools to communicate with clients, and be fully compliant with all the EEC and EU directives for the transportation of goods.
A tall order for any software solution provider to fulfil, as technology is consistently changing, and there are always new directives from the “powers that be”. Anticipating customer demands also has a bearing on supply chain fulfilment and subsequently its execution. Overstocking of product can be an expensive and time consuming exercise, with little or no return. Getting stock levels continuously right is the most cost effective way to operate. It has been proven over and over again that “Just in Time” stock replenishment methodology works best, i.e. goods delivered to the end user as and when required, in the right amount and no more. This, coupled with the ever increasing demands from the end user who very often has the “I want it and I want it now” mentality, brings enormous amounts of pressure to bear on those who are responsible for driving cost effectiveness and efficiency into their Supply Chain execution.”
Where do transport management considerations begin?
“At what point in the supply chain process must the transport requirements be taken into consideration?” David asks. He continues, “To optimise both warehouse storage and transport costs, in our opinion, it begins at the end of the manufacturing process.
Considerations should include
· When this product is completed how and where are we going to store it?
· Are we going to transport it?
· Which vehicle is going to be most suitable?
· How are we going to load the vehicle?
· What is the best use of the vehicle’s available space?
· When do the goods have to be delivered?
· Where do they have to be delivered to?
· What time do they have to be despatched?
· What are the best routes to the delivery points?
· How many vehicles and drivers will we need to make our scheduled deliveries?
· How will the new Road Transport Directives affect our delivery schedule and staffing levels?
· How do we track the stock from point of manufacture, through storage, picking, despatch and delivery?
· How heavy are the products and what bearing is this going to have on transport regulations?
· What are the products volumetric measurements?
· What sort of product is it? Is it a dangerous substance i.e. inflammable, corrosive, explosive, for example?
· Are the products perishable?
· What is the product’s life span?
The answers to these questions will be as individual to your company as your company’s individual business processes. However all of these aspects should be borne in mind when considering a Transport Management Solution (TMS), and the suitability of the technology on offer that aids the execution of your supply chain processes”.

o Waybill Capture
Waybills can be captured into FreightWare, either when the goods have been received or via interfaces from the clients system. As soon as a waybill is captured it is priced automatically. Waybill batches can also be pre-printed for customers. FreightWare has been designed to make use of customer documentation instead of actual waybills if required.
