In 2002 we took a strategic decision to carry out a complete technology update to the PROTEUS software suite using the latest Progress development tools (Open Edge 10).  The objective is to ensure that PROTEUS is based upon the most up to date software techniques, and to provide new and exciting capabilities, including graphical user interface (GUI), web enablement, office integration, and enhanced facilities for electronic trading.

The new technology was implemented in 2004 and has been performing well.  Early in 2005 we commenced the second phase, which was to apply the new technology to the distribution and accounting aspects of the PROTEUS suite.  For this phase we have decided to retain the existing database design, which means the new version of the software can be run simultaneously with the previous version.  The structure of the application remains familar to existing users so they should be able to take advantage of the new technology with the minimum of training.  The screen layouts have been erognomically designed to ensure efficiency and ease of use. 

The emphasis in 2005 was on enquiry routines.  The new release of the financial systems was available by the end of 2006, which provided a variety of enquiries including Customer Enquiry, Supplier Enquiry, General Ledger Enquiry, Stock Enquiry and Sales Order Enquiry.  These new enquiries will also provide seamless output to Excel.  

General Ledger reporting facilities are being enhanced to simplify and speed up the design of flexible financial reports and enquiries.  During 2008 the new developments will be extended to other areas of the PROTEUS system, and customers will be able to implement these on an incremental basis as they are completed.
