The British Computer Society selects Proteus Technical Director as a medallist

Tony Pearson, Technical Director of Proteus Software has been chosen as a medallist of the 2006 BCS awards in the category of IT Director of the Year (249 or fewer employees), by the British Computer Society, for his individual excellence in IT development and his outstanding contribution to the global growth of Proteus Software.

The British Computer Society (BCS) is the industry body for IT professionals and a Chartered Engineering Institution for Information Technology.  The BCS is responsible for setting standards for the IT profession. It is also leading the change in public perception and appreciation of the economic and social importance of professionally managed IT projects and programmes. In this capacity, the Society advises, informs and persuades industry and government on successful IT implementation.

The BCS awards have very quickly established themselves as the leading hallmark of success amongst practitioners in the IT industry today.  As standards of sophistication, business acumen and skill in the IT world are continually developing, the role of IT and its effective management is critical across the whole spectrum of business.  The cross-industry awards recognizes, promotes and acclaims excellence, professionalism, innovation and the outstanding achievements to which individuals and groups contribute.

Proteus Software’s business strategy of the past twelve months has been to look at the global IT market place, with the view to providing easily deployable IT solutions to new and emerging markets. As a result three new partnerships were agreed on.  Proteus now have partners in Indonesia, Malaysia and India as well as Sri Lanka and South Africa

Once the partnerships were established, the next stage was to ensure IT projects were able to be delivered  across a diversity of development teams, whilst negotiating language and time barriers.

Other challenges faced by Tony as Technical Director were the continuing deployment of the Proteus product suite and the building of global technologies across multiple teams, even though the team members were at various levels of expertise. The use of innovative technologies such as Progress Dynamics, and eScript allowed delivery across a range of technologies, for example broadband vs. slower dial up modem access, and ensured accessibility of the software regardless of networks used.  Modem links are generally poorer and slower in South Africa, due to available band width.  Dynamics ensures that this is not a problem and that the Proteus product is able to operate at its normally fast speed.  Previous versions of Progress Dynamics had to expand to take in to consideration the differences IT infrastructures\networks of different countries.

The successful delivery of multiple products in South Africa and Ireland, whilst continuing the growth and development of new technologies and markets in Asia have proven Tony’s dedication and techincal acumen.

Howard Turvey MD of Proteus said, “ We are extremely proud of Tony’s achievements. We are very pleased that his dedication has been acknowledged by the BCS, and he has been rewarded as a medallist."

As Technical Director Tony Pearson is responsible for the Proteus Software Development, Technical and Application Support Teams so essential for the successful implementation of our client projects. A highly experienced software designer and developer, Tony has been employed by Proteus Software Ltd for the last 12 years. Prior to joining the company he worked for the University of London, and Computer Solutions. During his working life Tony has become expert in providing real business benefit by designing and developing applications that take advantage of latest technologies. The number of successful implementations in computer projects that he has managed has proved this over and over again.

The award for individual excellence is sponsored by Clara.net and awarded by the BCS in association with the Institute of Directors.
